William Rayner
William Rayner was born about 1740. He married Ann and they had the following children: John 1775, William 1776 and Esther 1781. Esther died age 18.
Robert Henry Rayner, recorded on the gravestone was the son of William Rayner (junior) and his wife Amelia. He was baptised at St Helen's Church, Sandal on the 9th September 1809. He died age 6, in 1815. Both William Rayners, father and son, were described as merchants.
The inscription reads:
"Hereby deposited the remains William Rayner, merchant departed this life the 26th of September 1795 aged 55.
Also Esther, the daughter of the above Wm Rayner who departed this life July the ? 1799 aged 18 years.
Also the remains of Robert Henry, son of Wm Rayner of Milnthorp, merchant who departed this life 12th day of March 1815 aged 6 years.
Also Ann, wife of the above said Wm Rayner who departed this life the 1st day of October 1819 aged 82 years.
Also on the South Side Lieth John Rayner, son of the above named Wm and Ann Rayner who departed this life 17th Sept 1840 aged 65 years."
