Joshua Lee
Joshua Lee was born about 1758. He married Judith Reuner on the 11th August 1783 at Wakefield All Saints. Joshua Lee died in 1820, aged 62 and his wife Judith died in 1833 aged 74 years.
Their son Samuel Lee was born in 1797 and he married Sarah Craven in about 1820. Samuel Lee died in 1854 aged 57 years and his wife Sarah died the following year in 1855, aged 58 years. They are both recorded on this gravestone. They had a son Samuel Craven Lee, born before 1837.
Samuel Craven Lee's first wife was Eleanor Furness, whom he married in 1855 in Wakefield. They had a daughter Annie Craven Lee who is recorded on this gravestone having died aged 1 year and 7 months in 1858. After the death of his first wife Eleanor in 1860, Samuel Craven Lee, married Sarah Ann Studdard in Huddersfield in 1863.
The inscription reads:
"Sacred to the memory of Joshua Lee of Horbury who died May the 24th 1820 in the 62nd year of his age.
As pentive bonding oer thy mouldering bust,
With lingering pangs we give thee back to dust.
At morn thy sun rose cloudless as before,
But ere twas ove it set to rise no more.
Also to the memory of Mrs. Judith Lee, the beloved wife of the above who departed this life on the 31st day of January 1833 in the 74th year of her age, greatly and deservedly respected by her family and friends.
Adieu vain world I’ve had enough of thee,
Nor cared what false friends can say of me,
Only let my body and is unbed rest,
Until the day it rises to be blest.
Here rest the husband and the Wife,
Now joined in death as one in life.
A joyful blessing to their souls restore,
To endless bliss when time shall be no more.
Also Samuel Lee, son of the above who departed this life October 27th 1854 aged 57 years.
Also Sarah Lee, wife of the above who departed this life on the 28th day of May 1855 aged 58 years.
Also Annie Craven Lee, granddaughter of the above Samuel and Sarah Lee who died March ? 1858 aged one year and seven months.
Thy will be done."
